Crampons routiers actifs

Driving Decarbonisation through Innovation: Building safer, smarter and greener places

Decarbonisation through Innovation: SolarLite & Live Labs 2 project

At Clearview Intelligence, we are proud to be at the forefront of sustainable innovation in the transport and infrastructure sector. As part of our mission to decarbonise the UK’s road networks, we’ve joined forces with the Live Labs 2 project (https://www.adeptnet.org.uk/livelabs2), a groundbreaking initiative led by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and backed by £3.3 million in Government funding.

Driving Change with Live Labs 2

Live Labs 2 is focused on reimagining the role of street lighting, road markings, and signage in a future where environmental impact, cost-efficiency, and user experience are key. Working alongside industry leaders and research institutions such as Sheffield University and the Institute of Lighting Professionals, the project aims to:

  • Reduce carbon emissions from street lighting and road infrastructure
  • Improve road safety and visibility through solar-powered solutions
  • Explore the socio-economic impacts of lighting on communities and nighttime economies
  • Establish national guidelines for low-carbon infrastructure adoption

SolarLite: A Brighter, Greener Future

Our award-winning SolarLite Active Road Studs have already proven to be a powerful alternative to traditional street lighting, offering:

  • Superior road visibility up to 900m, even in poor weather conditions
  • Reliable, year-round performance with no dependence on grid energy
  • Significant whole-life cost savings (60%+) over standard street lighting
  • Carbon savings exceeding 50%, backed by verified energy use and manufacturing data

This performance, combined with lower lifetime costs and enhanced driver experience, positions SolarLite not just as a supplement, but as a viable replacement for conventional lighting on dark stretches of road.

Backed by Data. Built with Purpose.

We’re not just making bold claims, we’re backing them with data. Consider this comparison over an 8-year period across a 10km stretch of road:

Solution TypeTotal Carbon Emissions
Standard Street Lighting1,600 tonnes
LED Street Lighting704 tonnes
Goujons SolarLite20 tonnes

By dramatically reducing both operational and embodied carbon, SolarLite plays a vital role in achieving our national and global climate goals.

A UK-Made, Scalable Solution

Our commitment doesn’t stop at the product level. We’ve invested heavily in our UK-based manufacturing facility to ensure we can scale responsibly and efficiently. As of April 2025, full automation of SolarLite production is in effect, allowing us to meet rising demand while upholding sustainability and quality.

Looking Ahead

Being crowned winners at the Live Labs 2 ‘Dragons’ Den’ event wasn’t just a milestone – it was a validation of our dedication, our data-driven approach, and our vision for the future. Clearview Intelligence is ready to support local authorities across the UK in rethinking street lighting, reducing carbon and creating safer, smarter roads.

Let’s build the roads of tomorrow — sustainably.
